Pakistan Offers Technology Investment Opportunities: PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that Pakistan provides enormous prospects for technology investments, and that foreign tech companies will be aided in all aspects of investment and expansion.

Mr. Yi Xiang, Huawei’s President of the Middle East and Africa Region, paid him a visit in Islamabad on Friday.

The Prime Minister stated that the government intends to increase Pakistan’s IT exports from 1.5 billion to 15 billion dollars in the coming year, and that the government’s close collaboration with Huawei will result in the provision of training to Pakistan’s youth through various means, including the establishment of a university.

He emphasised that investments in the tech sector would increase employment and skill development for Pakistani youth, particularly women, as the government aims to increase the number of women working in the e-commerce sector by providing them with a conducive environment in which to get trained and raise capital. He also underscored the importance of completing the process of conceptualising coordinated efforts within a week, as well as the government’s resolve to leave no stone unturned in order to meet the stated goals.

Huawei’s long affiliation with Pakistan and investments in the telecom sector have pleased the Prime Minister.
