Pakistani athletes who won medals at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham were greeted warmly upon their return to the country on Wednesday at Islamabad Airport.
Colonel (retd) Asif Zaman, Director General of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), welcomed silver medalists Sharif Tahir and Zaman Anwar, bronze medalist Asad Ali, and other athletes who arrived in Pakistan from the United Kingdom after competing in the Games.
Pakistan finished in 18th place with eight medals, including two golds. Nooh Dastgir Butt won Pakistan’s first gold medal before star athlete Arshad Nadeem produced an incredible performance in the javelin throw final to win the country’s second gold.
National wrestlers continued to contribute significantly to the country’s medal tally, with Inam Butt, Zaman Anwar, and Sharif Tahir each bringing home a silver medal. Inayatullah and Ali Asad won bronze in wrestling, while Shah Hussain Shah won bronze in judo.
