Chances of further heavy rains in Karachi

According to weather experts, Karachi is likely to experience yet another bout of intense monsoon rains from August 11–14.

The city may get some light rain this afternoon (Wednesday), according to Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) chief meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, while substantial rain is predicted after 5 o’clock.

The weather in Karachi, according to Sarfaraz, would continue to be humid during the day and get more precipitous at night.

The PMD has noted in its weather forecast from August 8 that from August 11 to August 13, heavy rainfall could cause urban flooding in Karachi.

Additionally, thatta, badin, hyderabad, dadu, jamshoro, sukkur, larkana, shaheed benazirabad, and mirpurkhas received forecasts.

According to the top meteorologist, 100 to 150 millimetres of rain are expected to fall in Karachi during the next four to five days.

Meanwhile, according to weather expert Jawad Memon, the low-pressure system affecting the country’s central and southern regions has deepened into a depression and is predicted to cause severe rainfall in the port city between August 11 and 14.

The rain-bearing storm is moving toward Sindh, according to Memon.

Another low-pressure system is present over Gujrat, and a connection between the two systems is being constructed, he continued.
