In Pakistan, Facebook will not open a permanent office

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has dismissed rumours that Facebook, which is owned by Meta, is establishing a permanent presence in Pakistan.

“A bogus report on the opening of a Facebook office in Pakistan is circulating in the media,” an FIA official said in a statement released Tuesday evening. “The FIA has made no such formal statement, and the same is categorically rejected.”

The referenced source in the reports was likewise described as “misleading.”

“The FIA strongly condemns the publication of such unsubstantiated and unverified stories,” the statement continued.

According to previous reports, Meta has begun talks with Pakistan about creating a permanent presence there.

During the PTI’s term, former Science Minister Fawad Chaudhry urged tech corporations like Facebook to create offices in Pakistan.

Pakistan issued new cyber guidelines in October 2021, requiring social media companies to establish permanent offices in the nation and adhere to local laws.
