DG Khan Cement Company Limited (DGKCC), a Nishat Group of Industries affiliate, has become the first Pakistani company to export cement to the United States, with a shipment of 50,000 tonnes of low alkali cement planned to leave Karachi Port for the United States on Tuesday.
DGKCC Director Marketing Fareed Afzal told reporters at a press conference here on Monday that the business has obtained a 600,000-ton selling deal, which will be supplied in 12 monthly consignments of 50,000 tonnes. “If all goes well, this figure may double.” Syed Saideen Raza, Chairman of the KPT, Muhammad Najib Balagamwala, Chairman of the Sea Trade Group, and veteran industrialist and exporter Majyed Aziz accompanied him.
Fareed Fazal stated that this high-tech and world-class cement was brought in big bags rather than containers. He stated that the first ship will take roughly 42 days to arrive at the Port of Houston, Texas, and that the second shipment would leave after one month.
Since 1999, DGKCC has been exporting cement to a number of nations, including South Africa, Central Asian States, India, and Bangladesh, according to him. However, joining the US cement industry was a source of pride for both the company and the country. “This cement shipment would boost Pakistan’s foreign reserves, which it desperately needs.” He stated that satisfying the defined standards of the United States, as well as the country’s statutory requirements and procedures, was a difficult test for the organisation.
“Since the first interaction with the USA buyers, it took almost ten months to execute the deal.” Fareed Fazal said the USA buyers had many queries about Pakistani products, ports and allied facilities, and the business environment.
