The most recent Omicron sub-variant has been detected in Pakistan

On Monday, Pakistan reported the first instance of the latest Omicron sub-variant, BA.2.1.2.1, which is responsible for a fresh wave of Covid-19 infections around the world.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) verified the new sub-presence variant’s in Pakistan in a tweet, urging individuals to observe social distancing rules and receive coronavirus vaccines.

The issue surfaced a month after Imran Khan’s government shut down the National Command and Operation Centre, a dedicated platform for fighting Covid, in March.

Ex-NCOC chairman Asad Umar had claimed at the time that the health ministry will take over the NCOC’s tasks, such as pandemic monitoring and vaccine administration, when infections declined.

Similarly, in March, two weeks before the NCOC closed, all coronavirus prohibitions in Pakistan were repealed.
